Traveling to Siargao since 2010
This year, I celebrate my 10th anniversary with this beautiful island.
Siargao has truly changed my life, and this website is dedicated to one of the best islands in the world.
It all started with a road-trip…
Christoph said: “let’s go to S-i-a-r-gao – we can surf there!”
We were on our way from Cubao in Manila down to Liloan (Leyte) via Donsol and Samar. By public transport.
On one of the many bumpy roads he was reading through his travel guide (probably Jens Peters) and was wondering about our next stop.
Since neither he nor us had any idea of where to go next, we opted for Siargao. But how to get there?
We would definitely find our way but certainly not that night anymore. There was no ferry, so we just went to a karaoke bar, drank some Tanduay coke and tried to sing along some Sinatra songs. Apart from Christoph and his girlfriend Nora, we had Christine, Flori, my best friend Jakob and myself along with us.
It took as roughly 5 days to go from Cubao to here, we were lucky enough to swim with some whalesharks in Donsol, find a very basic “beach resort” somewhere in Samar, and made some more random stops in the middle of nowhere.
Early the next morning, we headed from Liloan to Surigao City and tried to find information about how to get to this exotic Siargao. Nobody knew, and only after a few hours we understood that the pier to Siargao is about 10 km away. Eventually, we found the right spot to go on our next adventure to Dapa.
The bigger bangka was more than basic, and after a rough 3 hours boatride, we arrived Dapa. We took a tricycle from there to “Cloud 9” which was described as the hotspot in Siargao. Little did we know that it would take another 2 (!) hours on bumpy roads (there was no “Tourism Road” by then) to finally reach Ocean 101 where we checked in… [to be continued]
